Here's a link to a page that is devoted to some of the Japanese towns in California. The history of Cortez is overlooked though. Cortez is briefly mentioned under the heading of "Yomato Colony." Enjoy.

It's interesting because he bought the land less than a decade before the alien land law of 1913. I'm wondering if the relative success of the Yamato colony had some impact on the legislation.

As for the links, it's too bad they don't have a full version of the Cortez history since Cortez was a Buddhist colony while Yomato eventually became a Christian one. I'm going to have to try and find a copy of my original Cortez story and post it here.
