I finally bought a new digital camera. I bought an Olympus E-500 digital single lens reflex with two lenses, a 1 gigabyte ultra-high speed memory card, a camera bag and a tripod. Took me long enough, huh? It's being shipped tomorrow and should be here by either Friday or early next week. Then I'll finally start taking pictures and posting them.
In the meantime, you can look at my photos of the Alternative Press Expo that I took about a week ago using my crappy little 1.1 megapixel camera.
Devoted to photos of teriyaki donut shops, taco trucks, great food, unusual or interesting foods, and any other commercial enterprise or cultural phenomenon that is just darned interesting to see.

Dork Report
The Dork Report covers the issue of Chinese and Japanese characters being used as tattoos or showing up on American t-shirts. It's an interesting take on the trend. What I find most interesting is the concept of "consuming culture" or making it into a commodity. While I guess that's one way to look at it, I would like to think that it's more of a sign of cultures blending into each other and adapting traits from one another.
I guess if you really took his column to the extreme - the idea that one culture should not adopt another culture because it "trivializes it - then I guess you also could easily end up supporting segregation and seperatism in an effort to "preserve cultures." Not sure if that's the road he intends, but it could easily end up there.

Updates
Ok,still working on the camera thing.
But in the meantime, I point out the following articles:
More trouble than you ink and
A load of tat.
Those are a follow up to my earlier post about bad foreign tattoos. Also, both the New York Time and Los Angeles Times had articles Sunday about the same subject.
Ah, it's good to be ahead of the curve.
